Inter star targeted as Manchester United’s busy summer continues
Manchester United coach Jose Mourinho is looking to reinforce his defence at Old Trafford and has identified Inter centre-back João Miranda as a key target.
The Portuguese tactician has overseen a complete overhaul of the squad he inherited from predecessor Louis Van Gaal at the end of the season, bringing in Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, whilst a move for Juventus star Paul Pogba is thought to be imminent.
A clear out is also being planned at the Premier League club, but Mourinho is looking to add another centre-back to join alongside new signing Eric Bailly, and is determined to secure Miranda, according to the Daily Mail.
The Brazil international was a key figure at the heart of the Nerazzurri’s defence during his maiden campaign at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza. Arriving from Spanish club Atletico Madrid in 2015, Miranda made 30 appearances in Serie A, scoring once.
Although Inter would be reluctant to allow the 31-year-old to leave the club, a concerted push from Manchester United could prove too difficult to turn down.
The former São Paulo defender has 27 international caps to his name and made his debut for the Brazilian national team in 2009. In the absence of Neymar, Miranda captained the Selecão at the Copa America Centenario in June, as Brazil were eliminated at the group stage.
