He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital where doctors ran tests on him, but he is expected to make a full recovery.
After the incident, which occurred at the Lincoln Cafe, Ohio, US, officers closed the restaurant and confirmed an investigation was underway.
Leon Lewis, a manager at the cafe, told a local news station that Columbus police officers regularly stopped at the deli.
“We have a good customer base. The Columbus Police Department supports my business so there are no issues,” he told WCMH-TV.
An inspector from Columbus Public Health reportedly found small pieces of broken glass under a drying rack near a food preparation area that could have accidentally contaminated the food.
