Chimay Police Chief Pierre Maton has said that the blast was most likely “a gas explostion.” Another official confirmed that five people were in the building at the time, with the remaining two victims only slightly injured.
Another local official confirmed a large section of the building had collapsed. Police have said they believe they have retrieved everyone from the building.
A member of the local fire brigade told AFP that the explosion was probably caused by gas canisters in the building. An investigation into the cause is still underway.
