Finally!
“And your style icon is...?” General consensus: Alexa Chung is your go-to girl in the fashion inspo department, ever since the stylish Brit (and former model) popped up on our TV screens in the mid-noughties.RIP Popworld. The skinny jeans and smoking blazers + ‘60s-style makeup + hanging with hipster boyfriends and equally cool pals (she hates the word squad) at festivals = the chattier, more accessible, brunette answer to Kate Moss.
Nobody does androgynous fashion with a feminine twist quite like Alexa.
And her quirky presenting style combined with her geek chic outfits each week did not go unnoticed by brands, who wanted to benefit from what would later be dubbed the ‘Alexa effect’. Remember when Mulberry created the It bag of 2009 inspired by her? The fashion house saw a 79% increase in sales the following year…Not bad!
Post-presenting she’s collaborated on sell-out collections with labels from AG Jeans and J.Crew to Madewell, so us mere mortals could finally get a slice of the Alexa look, for less. She's also positioned herself as a creative consultant for Superga, Marks & Spencer, and Eyeko. Alongside working on her very own fashion app - Villoid. Safe to say, she knows a thing or two about the industry.
But the 32-year-old fashion influencer has held out on a solo design project...until now. Our style hero has just announced plans to launch her fashion brand ALEXACHUNG in May 2017, with former head of atelier at Haider Ackermann - Edwin Bodson - on board as managing director.
AC assures us the eponymous line including; denim, daywear, eveningwear, shoes and jewellery – or in Alexa’s words ‘daily luxuries’ - will not have a ‘crazy high price point.’
‘After many seasons of inspiring and eye opening collaborations with some of my favourite brands, I have decided that now is the perfect time to go it alone and establish my very own fashion line,’ Alexa says.
‘I have been fortunate enough to have found a wonderful team from various corners of the fashion industry and beyond to help realise my vision and make this lifelong dream a reality,’ she adds. ‘We hope to bring you wearable, cool clothing you can live in and love in, whilst exploring the sartorial relationship between masculinity and femininity, something that has been a cornerstone of my personal style since I was old enough to dress myself.’
