Manchester United defender Guillermo Varela set for Frankfurt loan
Manchester United defender Guillermo Varela is on the verge of signing for Bundesliga side Frankfurt on a season-long loan deal.
Varela, 23, who was signed by David Moyes after a successful two-week trial in 2013, made four Premier League appearances under Louis van Gaal last season.
Despite some impressive performances when given the opportunity, Varela’s only sustained run of football came two seasons ago as part of a loan move to Real Madrid B when he appeared 33 times.
Having not made an appearance in pre-season under Mourinho and with Matteo Darmian, Antonio Valencia and Timothy Fosu-Mensah and even Ashley Young ahead of him for the right-back slot, the Uruguayan is heading to Germany, according to ESPN.
Despite his lack of first team football, Varela earned a call up to the Uruguay senior squad for World Cup qualifiers against Brazil and Peru earlier this year.
